Guilt-Free Thanksgiving

It's almost Thanksgiving!! I don't know about you, but I really need this break! Granted, I only have Thursday off and have to work the Badger football game, but having a mid-week Thursday off is always awesome.

This time of the year I always get asked how to stay on track, how to eat healthy, exercise and not binge.

It can be really hard, especially with traveling and wanting to spend time with family and enjoy what they're eating. Carving out time to exercise while traveling is also a challenge. But first things first, how can you EAT better during the holidays?

Well, for Thanksgiving I have 8 tips that I like to try and stick to. Here they are:

This year I'm signed up for a Thanksgiving 5K (so that takes care of my wake up and workout). I'll have my Shakeology BEFORE the race, because you always get to races so early and I get so hungry!!  And you know what the AWESOME thing about working out is? It makes you want to drink more water!! Which takes care of #3. That's the top 3 things I do all knocked out just by running a 5k :)

Moving on to dinner time, it can be ROUGH. Don't get me wrong, I'm a self-proclaimed mashed potato addict. My uncle makes the joke EVERY YEAR that you can't leave the potatoes beside me or I'll eat the whole bowl. But as I've grown up, I've tried to vary my veggies. It's better to get some color on that plate like carrots, sweet potatoes and a side salad to start with. Then you can move on to a NORMAL portion of mashed potatoes. Which is the next tip! Eat items that are rare, or specific to your family Thanksgiving. You can get rolls or mashed potatoes any time of the year at any restaurant. But I bet you can't get stuffing balls, green bean casserole, or corn bread dressing. THOSE are the things you should focus in on!

After enjoying those items, be sure to STOP when you're full. I like to save room for a sampling of desserts and some after dinner coffee. You can't have that when you're stuffed to the max with dinner!

Finally, stop acting like this is your only chance to eat all day. Who says you can't have a small plate of leftovers a few hours later? Don't let Thanksgiving derail your routine, simply fit your routine into Thanksgiving!
