I Don't Fit In At The Gym

Yesterday I made my way back to the gym. In theory, I was really excited. It's been about 2 years since I actually went to a gym (not including the one at work, which I use maybe twice a month). I decided to get a week long guest pass because I'm using their pool on Wednesday with a friend.

Unfortunately, I wasn't really into it. Once again I found myself looking at all the machines and feeling overwhelmed. Don't get me wrong--I'm in the fitness world. I KNOW how to use equipment…but I got that feeling of being stared at as I made my way through the rooms. Like people knew I didn't belong. I'm sure it was all in my head. But even if it was, I still felt uncomfortable and not in a good way.

All in all, I'm happy that I was disappointed. It just reminds me how much I LOVE my home workouts. I have a lifting program with ChaLEAN Extreme, cardio program with Insanity or TurboFire and a mix of both cardio and strength training with Focus T25 and the 21 Day Fix. That's a lot of different workouts that I can move through whenever I want! And I don't pay a monthly fee to use them. Nobody is looking at me struggle through them in the beginning. I don't have to bring a ton of stuff with me to the gym to shower afterwards. I don't have to waste 15 minutes getting to the gym and 15 minutes coming back. I can wake up early and be at my gym in 2 minutes; or I can drive home and be at my gym. These are all especially important to me at this time of the year…when the temperature in Wisconsin is dropping QUICKLY and my desire to be outside is incredibly low.

I wanted to share these thoughts with you all so that you know you're not alone. If you go to the gym and hate feeling like you're being starred at, or hate feeling like you're the new person who doesn't really know how to use the equipment…there's another way! The gym isn't for everyone (just like home workouts aren't for everyone either). But DON'T KNOCK IT TILL YA TRY IT Y'ALL!!
